LAUDATO SI’ COVENANT

Parish of St Peter & the Winchester Martyrs St. Peter’s, St. Stephen’s, St. Thomas More’s and St. Gregory’s

By this Covenant, in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, we bind ourselves to promote and observe, as a parish and individually, the principles expounded in Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si’.

This Covenant embraces the work of all groups and individuals in the parish who express their faith in Our Lord by their actions towards goals of peace, justice and the preservation of the environment, as well as all the prayers and acts of kindness, and gifts of time, energy and resources.

In addition, this Covenant has been expressed by the support of parish members for the various charities working towards these goals, including CAFOD, Caritas Diocese of Portsmouth,  Pax Christi, and WinACC.

“In the words of this beautiful canticle, Saint Francis of Assisi reminds us that our common home is like a sister with whom we share our life and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us. ‘Praise be to you, my Lord, through our Sister, Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us, and who produces various fruit with coloured flowers and herbs’” – Pope Francis.

By signing our Laudato Si’ Covenant during Mass on Climate Sunday 2021, we seek to establish it more firmly in our hearts and minds; to sustain the efforts of those who work towards goals of peace, justice and the preservation of the environment; to encourage others to join them; and to inform ourselves about how we may be inadvertently impeding this work.
